Boys and Rain

One of the big things we do as cottage parents, is to present our kids with opportunities they may never have had before and may not get once they leave us. This could be something as little as the chance to learn how to hang laundry on a clothesline (really, how many people do this anymore?), what appropriate "restaurant" manners are, the chance to go to a church, the opportunity to try out all different sports, have a family night movie & snack, learn how to scrub a toilet or play in the rain!

Tuesday it rained and poured (for forty long days . . . . it seems like) and for evening free-time everything was pretty wet & damp. Including our back road . . . so we told the boys they could get water shoes on and play in the puddle. I don't think Steady Heart or Healthy Boy had ever, ever played in puddles before. The joy, shock and delight, well, pictures speak for themselves!

Forest and Jeremiah enjoyed a nice sword-fight on the basketball pad.

Look at this fine looking group of future men!

The only one missing is Friendly Spirit. He's having a very hard time with his behavior right now. Not really sure what's up but his behavior is so drastically worse than it was in June, we don't really know what to do with him. Joyful Boy is really struggling to- he has been on a sweeping chore for 4 weeks now and STILL won't do it the way we ask for more than one day at a time. We're drawing up a contract with him today, complete with spaces to check off and a huge list of consequences if he fails to do the chore each day. We'll see if it gets through to him or not!

Boys head home on Friday for our first "home weekend" of the year and it's a 3-day visit because of Labor Day! Yipppeeee for family time! We've been promising Shannon that we'd get her felt house out and set it up on the dayroom, so I sense a lot of tea parties coming up!
